J. Robert Scott Announces New Managing Director
Jonathan Fortescue to Focus on Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Sectors
Boston, MA, October 23, 2006 - Boston, MA – (OCTOBER 23, 2006) –The executive search firm J. Robert Scott, a Fidelity Investments company, announced today the appointment of Jonathan Fortescue to the position of managing director. In this role, Fortescue will focus on identifying and recruiting leaders and senior professionals for higher education institutions, not-for-profit organizations, and foundations serving the public good.
While J. Robert Scott has served the not-for-profit and higher education sectors for more than two decades, the firm formalized this vertical practice in 2005 with the addition of industry veteran Nancy Archer-Martin as practice leader. Recent and current clients of the firm include: Harvard University, Duke University, University of Chicago, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SingHealth, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
“The not-for-profit and higher education sectors represent a tremendous opportunity for J. Robert Scott to establish ourselves in major market segments that complement and cross over into our existing areas of practice,” said William Holodnak, president of J. Robert Scott. “The addition of Jonathan to the firm further augments this practice and clearly reinforces our commitment to serving mission-driven institutions that create knowledge and improve the human condition.”
“I’m looking forward to working with Jonathan to continue to grow this practice,” said Martin. “The institutions with which we work are faced with distinct challenges that require deft and visionary leaders. Drawing upon his executive search expertise as well as his many years as a scholar and teacher, Jonathan brings a unique and valuable blend of knowledge and understanding to help our client organizations achieve their leadership goals.”
Fortescue joins J. Robert Scott after eight years at another executive search firm where his national practice focused on academic and administrative leadership positions in higher education and not-for-profit organizations. Prior to that, he taught at Harvard University for eleven years where he was a perennial recipient of several prestigious teaching awards. A scholar of American literature and culture, he contributed to three of the eight volumes of the Cambridge History of American Literature.
“J. Robert Scott has done excellent work on behalf of top-tier universities and organizations committed to social responsibility,” said Fortescue. “The ability to recruit a proven egghead entrepreneur like Frank Moss to the MIT Media Labs, and the creativity to see that the number two person at Bristol-Meyers Squibb, John McGoldrick, would be an ideal match for leading development at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, drew my attention. I’m thrilled to be joining the firm to help with the continued expansion of J. Robert Scott’s presence in the higher education and not-for-profit arenas.”
Fortescue holds a B.A. in English and Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A recipient of an Andrew W.
